Hoi An is beautiful but oh so busy. On prior visits the choice was between a large hotel in-town or one at the beach and neither choice achieved the right balance. I believe that we were only the second set of guests at Heron House since its opening and had an idyllic stay.
Our room overlooked the rice-paddies from two sides. We were able to watch the farmers harvest then dry the rice, with village dogs and water buffaloes having a great time on the dried paddies. Talk about indelible memories! The room was beyond comfortable, full of Vietnamese atmosphere and so roomy. Great shower, really great. Breakfast was fabulous and a great time to learn about them and get tips for our day and for restaurant outings.
Best of all is the location. It is a leisurely bike ride to the beach as we went by duck farms and the water buffaloes swimming in their favorite ponds. Then its a short motorbike or taxi ride into town. The swimming pool was under construction but looked great.
We plan to return next year and to bring a group of friends along.
